Costco Deals

I made a semi-regular visit to Costco not long ago.  My goal was to buy a short list of items I needed for home without too much impulse buying.  Costco, which has hundreds of warehouses in 40 states, is primarily based on the West Coast but in researching this blog I learned there are a fair amount of outlets in Texas, the Mid-west and Florida.  If  you live on the East Coast however, chances are you will be just as familiar with BJ’s Warehouse or maybe you even go to a Sam’s Club.  Internationally, I can’t say, but for those of you unfamiliar, these facilities are oversized supermarkets on steroids that combine food with household items, furniture, books, clothes, you name it.

So it should not have surprised me that much when I came across a promotion Costco was running.  The in-store  space, which you would usually find a deal on movie tickets or stamps, had been taken over by a local sports team selling single-game tickets.  Yes, the Los Angeles Angels had struck a deal with Costco and were offering two field box or terrace box tickets for $49.99.  The ad in the clear packaging claimed you could save up to 25% on Angels tickets.

The offer, allows fans to choose from 65 of the 81 home games throughout the 2009 Major League Baseball season.  The games that have been blocked out on the team’s schedule on the reverse of the oversized ad included opening day, all home games vs. the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers, as well as July 4th.  However, with more than 80 percent of the home games listed, Costco was offering a pretty good deal for its customers and the Angels had found a new outlet to deliver their message and hopefully sell incremental single game tickets.

The ad goes on to say early redemption is recommended.  The only catch is that if you decide to purchase Angels tickets at Costco, you must take the voucher from the warehouse to the stadium to be redeemed.  This of course, is based on availability so plan carefully.
