It is Why We Play the Game
Sometimes you might be watching a sporting event and ask yourself: ”Why are they even bothering to play the game?” I know who is going to win. I am not a Las Vegas bookmaker determining football odds for who is going to win each week.
Like most people who work in the sports management business, in my heart I am still a fan. There is nothing like a game day, in any sport. But nothing is automatic. It is why you have to play the game. Sports is unpredictable, it is emotional and most of all, it is is the orginal reality TV show with no script.
To that point, who would have predicted before Sunday that the Detroit Lions would win their first game in almost two years with a victory over the Washington Redskins? The Lions led 14-0 at the half ad held on to win by five points, 19-14.
September of 2007 was their last win? Wow.
Staying with an NFC North team…..
The Minnesota Vikings remained perfect as they battled and other 2-0 upstart in the San Francisco 49ers. From today on, I am calling Brett Favre Houdini from now on after throwing an incredible touchdown pass with two seconds left as the Vikings escaped with a 27-24 win. All Favre did was throw for 301 yards (24 for 46) with two touchdowns. In the old days, it would have been Joe Montana or Steve Young with the game winning pass. Times change
Shame on you for all of you that said he should have stayed retired. Favre is still an entertainer and he held up his end of that bargain vs the 49ers.
Who would have thought at the beginning of the football season that rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets would be 3-0 while the Tennessee Titans own an 0-3 mark? The two teams met on Sunday and the Jets won 24-17.
Take the time to sit down and watch a sporting event live. Great memories happen each week. Enjoy.
If you thought it was a long time since the Lions won a game, Michael Vick returned to regular season action Sunday for the first time since December, 2006.
