Tell us About Your Program: The mission of the Department of Sport Management at Wichita State University is to develop students into well-educated, ethical, competent sport management professionals. The department’s teaching, research, and service activities occur in a positive learning environment valuing both theory and practice. The department is led by faculty who also engage in intellectual inquiry and service to the community and profession.

WSUNewLogoThe sport management degree programs at WSU offers a quality curriculum including courses such as sport marketing, sport law, sport management, and sport sociology. Students complete both practicum and internship requirements at the undergraduate level and an internship requirement at the graduate level.

UMASS Sports Management Program

I have received quite a few emails from readers of the Sportsinfo101 blog asking for additional resources when it comes to earning a degree in sports management.  I will tell you that working in an internship is the best hands on approach.  Today though, many teams and businesses turn to colleges and universities to find interns and employees.

UMass Amherst students have completed internships in various departments with teams in Major League Baseball, minor league baseball, the National Basketball Association, the Women’s National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, the National Football League, the United States Golf Association, Major League Soccer, the Major Indoor Lacrosse League, the Arena Football League, and many Olympic Governing Bodies. They have also interned in league offices of the NBA, NHL, MLB, WNBA, WUSA, and NASCAR, as well as Boston College, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and the universities of Illinois, Michigan, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Hartford, and San Diego. Sport marketing agencies such as PSP Sports, 16W, IMG, Octagon, SFX, Woolf Associates, Clarion, Millsport, and Velocity regularly recruit UMass Amherst Sport Management interns, as do HCC Specialty Underwriters, World Wrestling Entertainment, Pinnacle Systems, MasterCard Sports, the Basketball Hall of Fame, the Women’s Sports Foundation, professional golf and tennis tours and events, and major sports facilities and television and cable networks.
